Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) is a safe and naturally occurring vitamin B3 metabolite already found in our bodies.
NMN can also be found in tiny amounts (less than 2mg/100g-food) in various foods sources such as broccoli, cabbage, cucumber, avocados, edamame, mushrooms, tomatoes, raw-beef and shrimp.
NMN is a direct and powerful NAD+ supplement. In 2013, Harvard scientists used NMN to show that some aspects of the aging process could be reversed. Old mice treated with NMN for only 10 days, demonstrated a dramatic reversal in some biometric markers used to measure aging. (a new and reversible cause of aging - click here to see the article)
A 12- month long study designed to evaluate the long-term effects of oral supplementation of NMN in mice was remarkable.
The mice that supplemented NMN demonstrated significant differences in age-related body weight, energy metabolism, blood sugar, lipid metabolism, gene expression, mitochondrial function, eye function, bone density and immune function with no toxicity.
The study showed that orally administered NMN is extremely bioavailable. NMN showed a sharp increase in the blood-stream after only 2.5 minutes. It increased NAD+ levels in the liver in as little as 10 minutes and in muscle tissue at 30 minutes.
As we age NAD+ levels fall, Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) is the direct precursor to the NAD+ molecule that helps to replenish the NAD+ supply. Within our cells, the NAD+ pool helps to breakdown sugars from the food we eat into energy. It is also an absolute requirement for the function of SIRTUINS, our "longevity-genes" that promotes overall health and wellness by regulating normal cell metabolism and gene silencing.
NAD levels decline over time because NAD+ is used and CONSUMED as a substrate by SIRTUINS, DNA-Repair enzymes and aggressively by another enzyme called CD38 for calcium balancing and immune response. New insights from researchers also show that NAD+ binds to another enzyme called DBC1, thereby reducing its interference with the normal DNA-Repair process. NAD+ acts both as a substrate for, and as a promoter of the DNA-Repair process. DNA-Repair is critical for protecting the integrity genome as an anti-aging response. It is now evident that supporting the NAD pool is vital for promoting good health & wellness, especially as we age.
Falling NAD+ levels results in less DNA-Repair, less gene silencing and lower physical stamina & endurance.DNA damage and oxidative stress accumulates over time as nucleus & mitochondrial communication slowly decline.
Scientists Can Reverse DNA Aging in Mice. DNA-Repair is essential for maintaining the integrity of the gnome. NAD+ is used as a substrate for repairing broken DNA strands. It also acts as a promoter of the repair process by binding to and blocking another protein that interferes with the DNA repair process.
